Response to clean up directive
Mom, you're being a little whiney. And there's no whining in this house. DADDY doesn't whine. ZACH doesn't....well, Zach sometimes whines. And I sometimes whine. But there's NO WHINING in THIS HOUSE!

Goo
Katie: Mom, we need to buy some more gooey stuff. For my col-lec-tion.
Betsy: Gooey stuff? You have a collection?
Katie: Yeah. Gooey stuff.
Betsy: What's in your collection?
Katie: Sticks, bananas, gooey stuff.

Happy Bedtime Talk
Katie: Mommy, I missed you when I was at school.
Betsy: I missed you, too! But I was happy because I knew you were having fun!
Katie: And I bet you were happy that I peed and pooped and pooped.
Betsy: Ah, yeah. I'm happy about those things, too.
Katie: And I bet you're happy that I can't go to jail yet!

Sisterhood
Katie, at bedtime, to Betsy:
I'm going to live with you forever. Because you only have a brother, and you don't have a sister.

Water
Katie trying to delay bedtime: I would like some water. If it's ice cold, it will make my leg feel better*.

Risky Behavior
Katie: ...and I might fall if I go on the roof...
Betsy: You're going on the roof?
Katie (Adament): NO! (pause.) Not today. Wednesday.
Betsy: Why are you going on the roof on Wednesday?
Katie: I am going to get a space ship. I need to get a space ship on Wednesday. Daddy will lift me up.

Age
While playing "Polar Coaster" in a way-too-fast moving wagon, Zach and Katie asked me to stand on the grass (for self-preservation). I sat on the grass.
Zach: You're SITTING in line.
Betsy: Well, I'm going to sit. I'm old.
Katie: Why you old?
Betsy: (Pause) Well, you have something to do with it...
Katie: (Concerned) You're not old. You're new!

It's so easy being green
I've written elsewhere about Katie's love of (maybe I should say her indoctrination into?) the music from Wicked. She's always been strictly a Glinda girl - way better costumes and there's that killer solo, "Popular". But today she told me that she's experimenting with Bad Witch territory...in particular with different media to achieve that green skin. We can't decide which best expresses Katie's evil alter ego. What do you think? Poster board paint --
or white board marker?

Growing up is hard to do
Frustrated over potty training:
I don't want to be a big girl. I want to be a little big girl!

Of pigs and butterflies
Lying in bed at bedtime, thinking, apparently, about the Pillow Pet she got for Easter. And about her cousin, Claire.
I don't like pigs.
(Pause)
I like butterflies. I don't want the pig Pillow Pet. Grandma can get me a butterfly one. Claire likes pigs. We should send my pig to Claire.

What's really happening in the esophagus
While eating pancakes and drinking milk:
It's like the milk catches the pancakes!
